The whole chain, from tax ID to live processing.

Explore

Banking and Payments

We open bank accounts and merchant facilities for international companies, including the ones conventional processors decline.

US tax ID, bank account, merchant processing, and the work after approval that keeps the account open.

Every application is built and matched to your jurisdiction, your industry and your volume.

The problem

Most international businesses stall at the next step.

The reason is rarely the business. The file reaches a compliance desk in the wrong order, from the wrong jurisdiction, or missing the one document that institution reads first. We handle the full chain, structured for your jurisdiction, your industry and your volume.

The sequence

Four steps, in order. Each one opens the door to the next.

  1. 01

    US tax ID

Every US company needs an EIN, and no US bank or processor will onboard a business without one. Founders without an SSN or ITIN are often told this door is closed. It is not. We obtain the EIN on your behalf and handle the entire process. US Tax ID (EIN)

  2. 02

    Bank account

The account that receives settlement has to exist, in the right name in the right place, before a merchant application will pass underwriting. Bank Account Opening

  3. 03

    Merchant account and gateway

Conventional underwriting where you qualify for it, specialist placement where you do not, connected to your store and reconciling correctly before your first sale. Payment Processing

  4. 04

    After approval

Reserves, dispute ratios and chargeback thresholds are what cost merchants their accounts in month six. This part of the engagement does not end at go live.

US Tax ID (EIN and ITIN)

Nothing moves without the EIN.

Explore

US Tax ID

Your bank wants a tax number.

The application for it wants a Social Security number you were never eligible for.

A separate route exists for foreign applicants, and we file through it on your behalf: prepared, submitted, tracked to issuance and delivered in writing. Where you also need a personal US tax number, we handle your ITIN.

What it is

The company's number, not yours.

An EIN is the number the US tax authority issues to your company. It is what lets the entity open accounts, be underwritten and be paid.

It is not a licence, a residency, a visa or a tax position. What you owe, and where, depends on your structure, your residency and where the work is performed. Tax Consulting

No SSN or ITIN
No SSN or ITIN

The usual case, and fully workable.

Having no SSN or ITIN is the usual case for our clients. The standard online application is closed to applicants without a US personal tax number, but the alternative route is open, and it is the one we file through by default.

What we handle

You send formation documents. We return an issued EIN.

We draft the application and match the entity name and responsible party details to your state filing word for word, submit it through the route open to foreign applicants, follow it until the number is issued, and deliver the confirmation letter to you in writing. The same file then carries straight into your bank and merchant applications.

Available on its own, or as the first step of a banking engagement.

Banking and Payments

Where it goes wrong

Most failures are predictable, avoidable and expensive to repeat.

Most declines trace back to a handful of small mismatches between the application and the company's own records. None of them is hard to fix. All of them are easy to miss, and a second attempt filed in the dark creates problems of its own.

We check for each of them before anything is submitted. One application, filed once, tracked to issuance.

Need a personal ITIN?

The EIN identifies the company. The ITIN identifies you.

An ITIN identifies you personally when you are not eligible for a Social Security number. Not every founder needs one: it matters once you have a personal US filing obligation or income subject to US reporting. We tell you at the outset.

When it does, we coordinate the application through a Certifying Acceptance Agent, so your passport is verified without sending the original. An ITIN is for tax identification only: not a work permit, a residency or a Social Security number, which no provider can obtain for you.

What this unlocks

The EIN is the first filing, not the objective.

With it issued, the bank application can be submitted and merchant underwriting can begin. We file it as the opening step of the engagement and carry the same file through to a live account. One conversation establishes what your structure needs and in what order.

Questions we hear most.

Does Advisory N9 give legal, tax or financial advice?

Advisory N9 acts as a coordination service. We are not authorised to practise law or to provide legal, tax, or financial advice, and we are not a bank, a payment institution, or a money transmitter. We do not hold or transmit funds on behalf of clients. Legal filings, regulated work, and account and merchant approvals are performed and decided by independent licensed professionals and institutions. The contents of this website are for informational purposes only, do not constitute advice of any kind, and do not form part of any engagement. The terms of any engagement are set out separately in writing.

Yes. The standard online application is closed to you, but a separate filing route for foreign applicants is open, and it is the one we use by default. No SSN or ITIN is required.

No. It is an identification number, not a tax position. What you owe depends on your structure, your residency and where the work is performed, which we address with qualified tax professionals.

Only if you have a personal US filing obligation or US income subject to reporting or withholding. We tell you at the outset rather than adding a filing you do not need.

No one can. SSNs are issued exclusively by the US Social Security Administration, and only to people eligible for them.

Your formation documents. We match the application to them word for word, file, track and deliver the confirmation letter in writing.

International Business Accounts

The entity exists. The account is the hard part.

Explore

Bank Account Opening

You have the entity and the tax number, and still no account.

Remote onboarding for a company owned by non residents is harder than it was five years ago.

It is not closed. It takes knowing, before you apply, which institutions accept a profile like yours and what they need to see.

The five routes

Each suits a different operating reality. The right one depends on where your money comes from and where it needs to go.

  1. US business accounts
    01

    US business accounts

For companies that need a domestic banking relationship, US based settlement, and a counterparty that American clients and platforms recognise. The strongest position, and the one with the most demanding onboarding.

  2. Fintech and neobank accounts
    02

    Fintech and neobank accounts

Where speed matters more than branch access. Faster onboarding, lower minimums, multi currency built in. The right answer for many early stage and cross border operations, with the tradeoff that these relationships can be less durable under scrutiny than a traditional bank.

  3. International accounts
    03

    International accounts

For clients who need currency diversification, banking outside the jurisdiction they operate in, or simply a second relationship so that a single account freeze is not an existential event. Most clients end up with two of these rather than one. Redundancy in banking is not paranoia. It is operational competence.

  4. Payment processors and merchant accounts
    04

    Payment processors and merchant accounts

A bank account holds money. A processor is how you get paid. For online, subscription and cross border businesses, the processor relationship is often harder to secure and easier to lose than the bank account itself. Reserves, chargeback thresholds and website compliance decide whether it lasts, and a bank file and a processor file have to tell the same story. We prepare both together. Payment Processing

  5. Crypto friendly banking
    05

    Crypto friendly banking

For companies whose revenue or treasury touches digital assets. Most banks decline this activity by category rule. A few assess it individually, and those want to trace funds from exchange to account. We prepare the source of funds documentation and submit only to institutions that currently accept the activity.

One account is not a structure

Most founders set out to open an account. A business needs a structure.

What a functioning international business needs is a structure: a primary operating account, a second relationship in another institution, a processor that settles into both, and where relevant, a digital asset on ramp the banks will accept. We design the structure first and open the accounts in the order that makes each application stronger than the last.

Opened. Then reviewed.
Opened. Then reviewed.

The account that opens easily is often the one that does not survive its first real review.

Onboarding is largely automated: the documents clear, the account opens, and for several months everything works. Then a second verification is triggered, and this time a person reads the file.

What they find is a company with a registered address and nothing behind it, typically a registered agent's office or a forwarding service shared with hundreds of other entities and flagged in the databases compliance teams check. An institution cannot keep an account for a company it cannot place anywhere. The account is frozen, and the client has a few weeks to withdraw the balance and start over, now with a closure on record.

We build the file for that second review, not the first: a genuine operating address, documentation in the company's name, and evidence that holds up when a person examines it. It is the difference between an account that opens and an account that stays open.

Business Address · Virtual Office

The assessment

Applying widely and hoping is the most damaging thing an international founder can do.

  1. 01

Why we assess before you apply

Each decline narrows the field for the next attempt. Some institutions impose a waiting period before reapplication. A file that has been rejected twice is a materially harder file than one that has never been submitted. The assessment exists so that you apply once, to an institution currently onboarding profiles like yours.

  2. 02

    What compliance desks examine

What the desk decides on is rarely the business itself. It is how that business reads against an internal acceptance policy written long before your file arrived. Institutions differ considerably in those policies. Some assess an applicant individually. Others apply a category rule and move on. Knowing which is which is most of this work.

How it works

One application, to the right institution. Prepared before it goes in, supported after it opens.

It starts with your profile and your activity, read the way a compliance desk will read them. From that reading we build the application, the supporting documentation and the business description, all describing the same company, and match the file to the institution currently onboarding profiles like yours. The application goes in once, with the questions that come back handled.

When the account opens, the work continues. Periodic reviews and information requests are answered as they arrive, so the account that opened stays open. Timelines depend on the institution and the file, both are discussed plainly in the first conversation, and the engagement fee is quoted after the assessment.

What we prepare

We assemble the application, the supporting documentation and the business description, then submit it to the institution best matched to your file. Where a profile is genuinely difficult to place, that matching is the engagement.

Questions we hear most.

01

Does Advisory N9 give legal, tax or financial advice?

Advisory N9 acts as a coordination service. We are not authorised to practise law or to provide legal, tax, or financial advice, and we are not a bank, a payment institution, or a money transmitter. We do not hold or transmit funds on behalf of clients. The contents of this website are for informational purposes only, do not constitute advice of any kind, and do not form part of any engagement. No. We do not promise approval, we do not offer anonymity, and we do not open accounts for activity that is unlawful in the jurisdiction of the institution. Those are less our limits than the conditions under which durable banking is possible at all.

Because onboarding is automated and the real review comes later, when a person reads the file. A registered agent's address with nothing behind it is the most common reason that review fails.

Yes, which is why we assess before you apply again. A file rejected twice is materially harder than one never submitted. If You Have Been Declined

It depends on where your money comes from and where it needs to go. Most established clients end up with two accounts and a processor that settles into both.

Payment Processing

A bank account holds your money. A processor is how you get paid.

Explore

Payment Processing

For most online and cross border businesses the processor is the harder relationship to secure and the easier one to lose.

We match your business to the right solution and build the file so the account lasts.

Standard, high risk and payout solutions for internationally structured companies.

The problem

Accounts close for two different reasons. Only one of them is fixable.

Most closures are about fit: the entity, the bank, the website and the declared activity do not line up, and a review ends the relationship. That is structural, and structure can be rebuilt. Some activity sits outside a mainstream platform's policy altogether, and we say so in the first conversation.

Four solutions

Standard, high risk, payout, settlement. Matched to how your business is paid.

Standard processing
01

Standard processing

For businesses in accepted categories that need Stripe, PayPal or a comparable platform. Quick to open, quick to close when the numbers drift.

High risk Merchant of Record
02

High risk Merchant of Record

For businesses that mainstream platforms decline. The Merchant of Record is the seller of record for each transaction, for your company or a new US one.

Mass payout accounts
03

Mass payout accounts

For companies paying employees, contractors or creators across borders. Many recipients, one account, no transfer per payee.

Settlement bank account
04

Settlement bank account

A processor pays out into a bank that accepts your type of business. A mismatch between the two closes accounts.

How it works

Review, file, integrate, ramp up. All terms are subject to underwriting.

  1. 01

    Review

We review the business model and the payment flows, and tell you which of the four solutions fits. If none does, you hear it now.

  2. 02

    File and onboarding

The application, the business description and the settlement account, prepared so that every document describes the same business.

  3. 03

    Integration and payouts

Gateway connected to your store or billing system, payout structure set, test transactions reconciled.

  4. 04

    Compliant ramp up

Volume brought up on a schedule the underwriter expects, with chargebacks, refunds and cancellations watched from day one.

What we do not do
What we do not do

We do not promise approval.

We do not misrepresent a business's activity, route transactions through another merchant's account, or place processing for activity that is unlawful where the business operates. Accounts built that way do not last.

Timeline and cost

Terms come from the acquirer, in writing, before you commit.

Merchant of Record underwriting takes around 3 days on a complete file. Standard and payout accounts vary by platform. Rates, reserves and settlement terms are set by the acquirer and shown in writing before you commit.

What you will need

Five things, before anything is filed.

  1. 01

Formation documents and EIN, matching word for word

  2. 02

A settlement account in the company's name, or we open one

  3. 03

A working website with terms, privacy and refund policies visible

  4. 04

Processing history, if any. Honest numbers place better than polished ones

  5. 05

A clear description of what is sold, to whom, and how it is delivered

No, and no honest firm can. Underwriting is decided by the acquirer. We control the match and the preparation, which is where most applications are actually lost.

If You Have Been Declined

A decline is information. Use it before you apply again.

Explore

If you have been declined

A bank or processor said no, probably without saying why.

The instinct is to apply somewhere else immediately.

Each unexamined application narrows the field for the next one.

What it means

The desk said no to the file. Not always to the business.

Institutions decide against acceptance policies written long before your file arrived. Most declines mean the file read badly against one of them, and the letter never says which. A smaller number are not about the file at all: the activity sits outside what that platform carries, and the answer is a different kind of processor, not a better application.

Either way the clock matters now. A file rejected twice is harder to place than one never submitted, which is why the next application has to be the right one. Payment Processing

Why it happened

Five causes account for most declines. None of them is visible from the outside.

  1. 01

The institution was never going to say yes.

  2. 02

The description landed in the wrong category.

  3. 03

    Something did not match.

  4. 04

    A document was missing.

  5. 05

An earlier decline was on record.

The decline review
The decline review

Before anything is resubmitted, we read what the desk read.

We go through the file as it was filed and find the cause, then establish which institutions are currently onboarding profiles like yours. We do not resubmit the same file to a longer list. If your situation is not placeable, we say so in the first conversation.

How it works

Three steps. Conversation, review, reapplication.

  1. 01

    The conversation

You tell us what was filed and what came back, including the parts that are awkward. The awkward parts are usually where the answer is.

  2. 02

    The review

We identify the likely cause and tell you plainly whether, where and how your profile places. Timeline and fee are quoted in the first conversation.

  3. 03

    The reapplication

Where it proceeds, the corrected file goes once, to a matched institution, through the ordinary engagement. Bank Account Opening · Payment Processing

Yes. Institutions rarely state reasons, partly for legal caution and partly because the reason is an internal policy they do not publish. The absence of a reason is not the absence of a cause.

Within that institution, yes, and some impose waiting periods. Across the market, what follows you is a file that keeps getting submitted unchanged. That is the pattern we break.

Rarely, and we will not pretend otherwise. The realistic path is usually a corrected file at an institution whose policy fits your profile.

Then you hear that in the first conversation, with the reason, rather than after an invoice.
